 Los Angeles World Airports

The landmark LAX “Theme Building” was originally constructed in 1961 as part of a $50 million municipal jet-age terminal construction project that symbolized the optimism of a futuristic Los Angeles. Today, the building is a designated city cultural and historical monument.

Austin was chosen to construct the airport theme building’s new concept restaurant, Encounter, under the creative guidance of project designer, Walt Disney Imagineering. Using modern materials and construction methods, Disney and Austin transformed the 35-year-old restaurant into a retro 1960's vision of the future.
