Pepperidge Farm

Pepperidge Farm wanted to make a change in the production capabilities of its Lakeland, Florida bakery plant so they selected The Austin Company to perform engineering and construction services to carry out this plan. It was the intention to remove a Hearth Bread line and install a new high-speed bread line in its place. The new bread line was not able to fit in the space vacated by the Hearth Bread line; therefore, the building must be expanded in order to support the project.

The expansion project involves adding approximately 19,500 square feet, 45' north of the existing production area. The original design for the facility included plans for a 60' expansion in this area. In order to minimize the cost of the project, the project involved the relocation and re-use of the existing architectural precast wall panels along the north wall of the plant.

Production from the new bread line was scheduled to begin June 1, 2008 and Austin was successful in reaching that milestone. Approval for the project was given mid April, 2007 with construction starting in the beginning of September, 2007. Plant operations ran continuously 24 hours/day, 7 days/week throughout the entire project.
