When WTHR-TV 13, an NBC affiliate, needed to expand and renovate its 15-year-old broadcast center, the station turned to The Austin Company to help it implement the project. Renovations included an upgrade of the building’s heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) system in response to the demands being placed on the facility by new equipment associated with rapidly changing technology. The cooling system in particular had been operating at full capacity without redundancy capabilities.

Central to the project was a two-story addition constructed on the east side of the station’s existing building. The first floor of the new structure serves as an extension of the news room, which was redesigned for improved workflow. The second floor addition is connected to the building’s existing second floor and is occupied by sales, traffic and public affairs. Areas vacated by these departments were remodeled for other purposes.
