When United Steel Deck wanted to become more competitive in the upper Midwest region, it called on The Austin Company to help find a location and build a new manufacturing plant and office building.
After locating a site, special design considerations were taken to compensate for unfavorable soil conditions. On-site materials were lime-modified to obtain the required soil-bearing pressure to support 5,000 pounds psf floor design loads for steel-coil storage areas.
The steel-frame manufacturing facility is equipped with crane girders to support eight independent bridge crane systems. The wall system consists of field-erected insulated metal panels and a seven-foot-high concrete-block sill wall. The roof is a standing-seam insulated metal roof over a metal deck supported by a bar-joist system. Metal fiber-reinforced concrete floors vary in thickness to support loads up to 5,000 psf. |
