Project Description:

The Austin Company provided a site feasibility study, as well as design, engineering and construction management services for T.F. Green Airport’s 73,000 SF Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) Storage and Airfield/Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Warwick, Rhode Island. This facility replaced existing buildings converted from highway department use that dated back to the 1940s.

The facility is located on formerly undeveloped airport property in close proximity to an active runway. Site design included a new access road to the site and extensive rework of existing drainage to meet RI Department of Environmental Management requirements. The main building is approximately 69,000 SF and houses a storage area for the airport’s snow removal equipment (SRE), a full-service vehicle maintenance garage, maintenance support areas, and administrative and Airport Operations Center offices. The facility is designed to store and maintain CNG fueled vehicles, in addition to gasoline and diesel vehicles.

Outbuildings include a free standing, fully-enclosed 2,000 SF Wash Bay and a 2,000 SF heated Sand Shed for storing heated sand, de-icing fluids and salt. A fueling station includes two above-ground fuel tanks (one for gasoline and one for diesel fuel) and dispensing island under a canopy. The main building is supported on deep piles (68’ to 100’ deep).
